Best Affiliate Marketing Tips

Last Updated on April 14, 2023 by Jussi Hyvarinen

Are you new to affiliate marketing? Or are you looking for some inspiration to take things a notch higher?

If that's you, this is your post.

In this article, I will share 33 best affiliate marketing tips to help you earn your first affiliate sale or scale your business.

I've been doing affiliate marketing for a couple of years, and guess what? It works - and if it works for me, it can also work for you.

I also did Amazon FBA and coaching before affiliate marketing, but those business models weren't a good fit for me. Now I am a full-time affiliate marketer, and I have achieved pretty good results in a relatively short period.

One example of a successful promotional campaign I have run in the past was the Legendary Marketer 15-Day Challenge, during which I generated over $1,000 in revenue per day on multiple occasions.

Guess what? You can do it as well!

As I said, I wasn't always an affiliate marketer. Still, I went on to build a successful affiliate marketing business.

Of course, I made mistakes, especially during my early affiliate marketing days.

The good news is that you don't have to make the same mistakes I did.

By leveraging the tips I share in this article, you can build a solid foundation, scale your business, and make a pretty penny.

In fact, you can implement these affiliate marketing tips to create a full-time income as an affiliate marketer.

Sounds good?

What are the Best Affiliate Marketing Tips?

I've handpicked these tidbits based on what I've learned as an online business owner.

I've covered handy strategies for new and experienced affiliates.

1. Sign-up for Premium Affiliate Marketing Training

Affiliate marketing has changed significantly over the years. Some affiliate marketing strategies that worked a few years ago don't work today.

One of the biggest mistakes most new affiliate marketers make is failing to learn the ropes before taking the plunge.

The solution?

Enroll in a premium course to learn the A to Z of affiliate business before starting. I recommend Blog Grow Engine by Adam Enfroy if you are about to start a blog.

Why this course? … because Adam knows his stuff. Not every day will you come across an affiliate marketer generating $250,000+ monthly.

The beauty is that Adam teaches the exact strategies he used to build his business. BGE is regularly updated, keeping you in the loop with what's currently working in the industry.

Check out my results after implementing what Adam teaches in his course below.

2. Create an Affiliate Blog

One of the most common questions I get from aspiring affiliate marketers is — can I start affiliate marketing without a website?

Well, you can run affiliate campaigns without a website by leveraging platforms like Facebook, TikTok, Instagram, etc.

Still, this affiliate marketing strategy has several disadvantages, including;

  • You don't own the platform
  • You can get your account banned these days very easily
  • You'll be flying below search engines' radar
  • You can get a lot of negative feedback, which can be overwhelming

An affiliate website, on the other hand;

  • Your site is an asset that you own
  • It can help you establish authority better
  • Allows scalability
  • It makes it easier to draw affiliate partners, among other benefits.

And, starting a website isn't expensive. You can buy a domain name for as little as $2 on Namecheap and host the site for a reasonable $2.99 per month on SiteGround.

3. Write High-Quality Content

To generate affiliate sales, your content has to drive prospects down the funnel.

Affiliate marketing revolves around creating valuable content, including blog posts and product reviews.

You're likely to convert visitors into buyers if your product reviews satisfy user intent. Your blog posts should be insightful and well-researched.

In addition, make sure your content is grammatically correct. You can use a tool like Grammarly to check grammar and spelling mistakes.

Grammatically incorrect content will only drive your readers away.

4. Publish Content Frequently

Promoting products requires that you generate content regularly.

Besides, uploading new content frequently gives your target audience a reason to return to your website, in addition to helping you grow your reach.

As a rule of thumb, ensure you post at least twice a week. You can even scale your content production using tools like Jasper AI, a writing assistant that can speed up your writing tremendously.

Further, embark on a robust content marketing campaign to help you generate more organic traffic, elevate your authority and build brand awareness. Of course, the more relevant the traffic is, the more conversions you will have.

5. Choose High-Paying Affiliate Programs

This is a big one.

Low-paying programs aren't the best if you want to generate significant affiliate revenue.

The logic is simple; the more an affiliate program pays, the more you'll earn.

While this sounds obvious, I see many affiliate marketers, especially the new ones, make this costly mistake.

So, when choosing affiliate products to promote, consider the commission percentage. Also, check the product's price. Pick items with a reasonably high price tag.

Take the Augusta Precious Metal affiliate program, for instance. The program offers 8 to 10% for every converting lead. With a trade going for as high as $500,000, you can make as much as $50,000 from a single conversion.

On that note, I've created a roundup of 37 Best High-Paying Affiliate Programs to get you started.

6. Learn Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

Learning the basics of SEO is crucial to the success of affiliate marketing efforts.

Keep in mind that creating content is just one piece of the puzzle. Once you've uploaded content to your website, you must make it discoverable to potential buyers.

Leveraging SEO is an excellent strategy to help you place your content in front of buyers.

SEO is in constant motion, so it would be best to keep up with the latest trends.

Crucial elements of search engine optimization include;

  • Keywords
  • Content
  • On-page SEO
  • Off-page SEO

Speaking of content, SurferSEO is an excellent tool to help you create content optimized for search engines.

7. Use Exit-Intent Pop-up Form

Exit-intent pop-ups are excellent for making a prospect about to leave your website to click your offer.

The forms trigger a pop-up that encourages visitors to take a second look at affiliate offers.

The idea is to ensure you're not leaving money on the table by increasing clicks on your affiliate links.

Here's an example of an exit-intent pop-up on my site.

Affiliate Marketing Tips - Exit intent

Use reliable link tracker software like Switchy to monitor your affiliate link clicks and traffic sources. That way, you can determine how to tweak your pop-up message to optimize clicks.

8. Create Product Comparison Articles

Most buyers want to compare products before they can spend their money.

Comparison articles are excellent for showcasing two products side by side. Think of it as a way of helping the reader make an even more informed buying decision.

Unlike single-product reviews, comparing two products can help increase conversions, enabling you to make more money.

Ensure you write in-depth product reviews highlighting the features that differentiate the two items.

9. Nurture a Healthy Working Relationship with Affiliate Managers

Affiliate managers can frustrate your efforts if you don't know how to engage with them.

Therefore, you'll want to develop a solid relationship with managers for every affiliate marketing program you join.

Apart from accepting or denying your application to join a program, affiliate managers can also help you run an effective marketing strategy.

For instance, the manager can help you with content creation ideas.

Because one of the affiliate manager's roles is promoting new affiliate offers and marketing campaigns, they can help guide your content creation strategy.

Besides, it becomes easier to sort your issues when you're in the manager's good books.

10. Repurpose Your Existing Content

Continuously creating new content can be tricky, especially if you're writing the content yourself.

Still, existing content doesn't achieve its full potential in one go. You can make the most of your content by repurposing it over several platforms.

Content repurposing is a great strategy to increase your income online by reaching a larger audience and attracting the attention of prospects you missed in the first round.

Some ways you can repurpose your content include;

  • Using main quotes from a blog post to create unique Instagram images
  • Creating a YouTube video based on content from a blog post
  • Creating Instagram reels and Youtube shorts based on your posts
  • Create an infographic based on the main takeaways from a blog post

11. Build an Email List

Email marketing is the unsung hero of affiliate marketing.

You can increase affiliate income by creating targeted and well-crafted emails with affiliate links. Plus, you can continue providing value, building your audience's trust, and connecting with prospects.

Think about it — 99% of email users check their emails at home, work, and mobile.

This makes emails one of the most effective marketing strategies to reach your audience and make money while you're at it.

To grow your email campaign, you need a tool that offers everything you need to build your email list and manage contacts efficiently. I recommend ActiveCampaign, for powerful, result-driven email campaigns.

12. Leverage Sales Funnels

To be successful with your affiliate marketing campaigns, you must understand the steps customers take before clicking your affiliate link to a product or service you're promoting — and that's where sales funnels come in.

A sales funnel allows you to capture and map out a visitor's journey as they move toward buying your affiliate product or service.

A good sales funnel enables you to achieve the following;

  • Create awareness to attract leads
  • Develop interest
  • Help prospects decide and buy

To create such a funnel, you need a sales funnel builder. Check out the best sales funnel builders for affiliates.

13. Know What's Happening Currently

Strategies to generate revenue with affiliate marketing change from time to time.

So, you must stay up to date with what's happening.

One of the best ways to stay in the loop is to join affiliate communities such as Facebook groups and forums.

You can use tools like Google Trends to analyze where the industry gravitates. Activate Google alerts for your niche keywords while you're at it.

On top of that, sign up for popular affiliate newsletters and blogs.

14. Keyword Research has to be on Point

Affiliate marketing requires thorough keyword research.

My advice to newbie affiliate marketers is to target low-competition keywords. Why? …because these keywords are easier to rank.

A keyword like "affiliate programs" has a high monthly search volume. However, it is highly competitive, making it very hard to rank high in search engines. "Best high-paying affiliate programs," on the other hand, has relatively low competition.

Speaking of keyword research, you need a reliable keyword research tool to help you unearth easy-to-rank keywords. I recommend Ahrefs as the to-go-to tool for affiliate content keyword research.

15. Build an Intuitive Landing Page

Landing pages can help boost conversions, generate insights about your visitors, grow your email list, and level up your paid search campaigns.

On top of that, landing pages help improve brand awareness.

On the flip side, a good landing page must have a clear call to action, high-quality headlines, compelling images, and mobile friendly layout.

My favorite tool for creating winning landing pages is Thrive Suite. Even more impressive, Thrive comes with over 300 pre-designed templates to enable you to build a landing page tailored for an affiliate marketing campaign.

16. Sign-up for Several Affiliate Networks

You can promote one or two affiliate products if you're a new affiliate marketer.

However, I recommend joining as many affiliate programs as possible once you grasp how affiliate marketing works.

Remember, choose a program with high-converting affiliate marketing products.

Below are some good affiliate networks where you can find different affiliate programs to join;

  • ShareAsale
  • Partner Stack
  • Rakuten
  • CJ Affiliate

The more affiliate networks and programs you join, the more products you have to promote, and the more revenue you can generate.

17. Launch a YouTube Channel

With 2+ billion users, YouTube is an excellent platform to offer your audience value while simultaneously generating passive income.

For most affiliate marketers, the hardest part is creating affiliate content and packaging it in a way that engages their audience.

In addition, many are camera shy, not to mention that creating YouTube can be expensive.

Still, that shouldn't deter you from promoting affiliate products.

You can make YouTube videos without showing your face using Synthesia.io. You don't even need a camera, mic, or film crew.

Read my Synthesia IO Review to discover how you can use the tool to boost your affiliate marketing business.

18. Run PPC Campaigns

As your affiliate marketing skills grow, you may consider running a Pay-Per-Click (PPC) campaign.

There are many reasons to run paid campaigns if your budget allows it. These include;

  • You get instant traffic
  • You can test conversions
  • You can understand your customer better

While PPC campaigns can help increase your revenue, you must get some basics correct. For instance, research medium-tail keywords, create intriguing ads, and consistently tweak your campaigns.

On top of that, you need to optimize and monitor your PPC campaigns for the best results.

19. Track Your Keywords

The success of your affiliate marketing business depends on the performance of the keywords. It, therefore, makes sense to track how your target keywords are faring in search results.

Keyword tracking can help guide your content creation and marketing strategy. On top of that, it can allow you to see how your campaign compares to your competition.

Effective rank tracking requires a solid rank tracker like SE Ranking. This tool comes with an on-page SEO checker, enabling you to analyze how well you've optimized your webpage for particular keywords.

20. Cloak Your Affiliate Links

An affiliate link can be unnecessarily long and complex, especially if you're not tech-savvy.

Lengthy affiliate links also fail to provide info about where a potential buyer will end up once they click on it, causing hesitation to click the link.

You can create a unique affiliate link using a cloaking tool to increase the likelihood of a visitor clicking on it.

Remember to add your affiliate disclosure on the page. That way, visitors can know that you're promoting affiliate products and getting paid if they buy products through your link.

21. Leverage Social Media

Social media platforms are great for affiliate marketers to increase their reach, generate more actions from their affiliate links and promote content.

You can make the most of your efforts by optimizing your content using each platform's unique tools.

Being active on every social media platform may not be possible, especially if you're a one-person show. The best approach is to promote your affiliate products on platforms where your target audience is most active.

22. Run a Mobile-friendly Campaign

According to Synchrony, over 70% of consumers have downloaded a retailer app. Besides, many buyers are still hesitant to visit physical stores after the ravaging pandemic.

With such stats, it is advisable to integrate mobile marketing into your strategy.

While you can use Short Message Service (SMS) to reach potential buyers, such strategies can be effective if you have your own store.

One of the best tactics is ensuring that your affiliate website has a mobile responsive design to make it easy for shoppers to buy on their smartphones.

23. Build Internal Links

Internal linking is crucial because it enables Google to understand and rank your site better.

When you give Google links to follow coupled with descriptive anchor text, you can indicate to the search engine which pages of your website are essential and what they're all about.

Further, internal linking is great for improving user experience, boosting engagement, and increasing the time spent on your site.

Let's take an example from this website.

I've written a post titled "How to Start a Credit Repair Business. I can interlink it with "Credit Repair Cloud Review."

Check the image below to see how I've done it.

Affiliate Marketing Tips - build internal links

How can you discover internal linking opportunities? … by finding pages on your website that rank for related topics and linking them with descriptive text.

24. Promote Discounts

This one is a no-brainer.

Deals and discounts are effective for enticing buyers. You could run campaign goals, promotion copy, or visuals in advance sales depending on your affiliate partner's product.

Take, Grow Blog Engine, for instance.

The programs usually sell at $3,800. However, if you buy through my affiliate link, you can get it at a discounted price of $1,497, including all the bonuses. That's a $2,303 discount.

Promoting bonuses can help boost sales, drive direct traffic and increase your affiliate income.

25. Create a Resources Page

Creating a resource page is an excellent strategy to generate passive affiliate income.

For instance, my resources page recommends the best tools for online business. That way, I can direct people to all the tools I use to run and grow my online ventures and earn a commission if they buy.

While you may not be in a position to recommend tools until you've used them, I recommend using this strategy once you've sampled enough tools.

I suggest you promote products you've used on your website to enable you to recommend from the point of authority.

26. Add Call-to-Action (CTA) in Strategic Places Within Your Content

The primary reason for creating content is to drive visitors to take a specific action.

For this to happen, you must direct the reader on what you want them to do through this.

You want to add CTAs to allow readers to interact with your content as much as possible.

While the standard practice is to place a CTA at the bottom of your article, I recommend adding one near the beginning and middle, depending on how long your article is. That way, you can reach more readers, whether they're reading a section or the entire piece.

According to Curata, distributing CTAs on your website can help generate 9x more leads

27. Launch an Instagram Page

With over 1 billion users, Instagram is a great platform to grow your affiliate marketing business.

One of the best strategies is to use Instagram reels.

Reel videos are short, which makes them easy to create, record and post.

You only need to be a little creative and maintain consistency on the platform to draw the attention of your target market.

You can also use Instagram stories to promote your affiliate offers. And if you want to anonymously snoop on what your competitors are doing to help you run a better campaign, you can use Instagram story viewer apps.

One more thing — don't forget to add your affiliate link to your Instagram stories.

28. Repost Your Content on LinkedIn

LinkedIn is known as the social media platform for anything and everything business.

However, did you know that you can publish articles on the platform?

You can leverage LinkedIn to build authority and reach new audiences.

I like to share content that's already on my website and link to other helpful blog posts.

There are a few things you need to know before publishing on LinkedIn;

  • Avoid adding regular CTAs in your content, or it'll be considered spammy.
  • While the platform allows direct linking, I wouldn't recommend it because such links can be regarded as low quality.

Instead, I suggest that you link to blog posts that contain affiliate links.

29. Reinvest Your Profits into Your Business

I get it; you want to become an affiliate marketer to make money.

However, that doesn't mean consuming all your income once your website starts to generate some money.

Based on my experience, one of the best ways to grow your online business is to reinvest the money.

I'm talking about investing strategies that can help drive more traffic, conversions, and revenue, such as content creation and ads.

30. Check What's Working and Do it Better

You don't have to reinvent the wheel. You can sometimes simply check what works for your competitor and improve on it.

You can, for instance, analyze their content to find out what they could be missing. Then, create better content.

Or, you can study their backlink profile to discover link-building opportunities for your website.

The takeaway is that you shouldn't do exactly what your competitor does. Instead, you want to come up with something better. Think of it as a strategy to get some inspiration.

31. Leverage Forums Like Quora

You cannot place your affiliate links on platforms like Quora.

However, you can use such forums to establish your authority and presence by giving replies to questions through answers that link back to your affiliate content.

The best practice is to place links sparingly to prevent Quora's moderation labels you a spammer.

Even though answering questions on Quora may help you sell affiliate products indirectly, it'll help you build authority and trust in the long run.

32. Run ads During Peak Shopping Seasons

Even though affiliate marketing doesn't involve selling your company's product directly to the customer, you're still an online business. The end goal is to generate revenue.

You can align your affiliate product promotions with peak shopping seasons like Black Friday, Christmas, Cyber Monday, Valentine's Day, and so on.

Shoppers are actively looking for deals and products during these seasons, so you'd want to cash in on the shopping frenzy. You can even run a PPC campaign if your budget allows it.

33. Update Your Products Reviews

The last thing affiliate marketer is for a customer to click on a link only to find out that the product you're directing them to is out of stock.

So, make sure you update your products as often as possible.

Also, keep up with product updates to ensure you're promoting the latest product version.

Keep an eye on the pricing plans to ensure you're always quoting the right price on your website.

Getting any of the mentioned specifics wrong means you could be losing money and your audience's trust.
